The Northern
Missouri Arts Council (NOMO) has invited MOPAPA Artists to
participate in a month-long art show in Marceline, Missouri.
Marceline is the home town of Walt Disney and is the Midwest
“Mecca” for cartoonists. They hold an annual “Toonfest”
which has put Marceline on the art-world map. The town recently
formed NOMO and they are off to a great start with a number
of paint-out events beginning in 2000 followed by last year’s
opening of their new gallery (where they have already held
a number of successful shows). The year 2007 will feature
12 one-month shows. Following are answers to some obvious
questions you may have:
1. What month is reserved for MOPAPA?
Answer: August ‘07 (Aug 2nd - Sep 2nd ).
2. Where will the show be held?
Answer: In the new NOMO Art Center Gallery located on Main
Street USA in Marceline. (This is the street Walt Disney used
as his model for Main Street USA in his Disney Theme Parks
around the world.)
3. Are there entry or exhibit fees?
Answer: No
4. If a painting is sold at the show, what percentage goes
to the artist?
Answer: 70%
5.How many paintings can MOPAPA send?
Answer: The gallery accommodates up to 30 medium-sized paintings.
6. What is the best way to get the paintings there and hung?
(also taken down and returned).
Answer: It is up to each artist to get their paintings to
and from the gallery. If desired, NOMO volunteers will hang
the paintings and will take care of printing tags (artists
can also prepare their own tags if desired). Minimum information
required on the tag is name of artist, size of painting, price,
medium and title of painting.
7. Do we need to have a representative present during the
show?
Answer: No. However, NOMO will host a reception from 4pm to
7pm on Thursday, August 2nd (the opening night) so that artists
can meet buyers. NOMO provides refreshments except for wine
(If artists bring wine, sufficient quantity for guests is
suggested). MOPAPA representation at that event would be nice
for those who can make it. Marceline is about a 2 1⁄2
hour drive from St Louis and motels and B&Bs are available
for those who wish to spend the night.
8. Must participating artists become NOMO members?
Answer: No, but of course, they are always looking for new
members (annual dues are $25).
